Engineering Prototypes

Our machined prototypes represent the best of both worlds.  You get the accuracy and strength of a production part in a quick turn process.  CNC machining allows for high accuracy as well as excellent surface finish and details. As a result, a machined prototype is as close as you can get to a production part. RPM can paint and texture your machined parts so that they also visually match your production specifications.

CNC machining is a good complement to other rapid prototyping (RP) processes like FDM, SLA and SLS. Our clients often use these technologies to prove out the basic fit and function of their design and move to machined prototypes for final testing and design evaluation.

There are some precision jobs, however, that can only be accomplished by CNC machines. Metal parts or any part with critical flat surfaces, snap features, bearing surfaces or thin walls are best reproduced with CNC machining.

CNC machining allows your parts to be made in production intended material for better design evaluation. We machine parts from a variety of materials, including: ABS, Polycarbonate, Acrylic, Nylon, polypropylene, high density polyethylene (HDPE), Delrin, PEEK, Radel, Ultem, RenShape, aluminum, brass, stainless steel and magnesium.
